Guessing a pending Nobel Memorial Prize in economics is a fool’s game. For one thing, Nobel confidentiality is scrupulously observed. For another, the authorities possess an embarrassment of riches: there are more prize-worthy candidates to choose from than there are prizes to give. Nobel goings-on are a shell-game. And nobody but the Royal Academy knows what its committee may be thinking about the years ahead.
Then again, if you are patient, the Nobel authorities themselves will offer a hint. All you need to do is wake up early on October 12 and watch the announcement live online yourself.
