The Christian Science Monitor item linked last week mentioned Democrat governors Gavin Newsome, Gretchen Whitmer, and J. Pritzker. Presumably Vice President Kamila Harris belongs on that list as well. Among Republicans, two names that often come up are former Gov Chris Christie and Gov. Glenn Youngkin.
An interesting read. An ideal match-up would be between Gov. Gavin Newsom and Gov. Ron DeSantis, two diverse (and young) leaders of two different laboratories of democracy. Apparently. the nation is transfixed on two old, very tired and tiring men. My ideal match up won't happen. Newsom doesn't have the courage of a Kennedy (see 1980) and DeSantis is floundering for whatever reason the political class narrates. In any case, that match-up would be preferable to what we will most certainly will face in 2024.
just to say I inadvertently made myself #3 'like' to my own comment and could not figure out how to fix it. Apologies for the error and with gratitude for the recognition from other like minded individuals.
any mentions of vaguely possible contenders is not at all encouraging to me. What we have may be emblematic of the few people who want and can function, by any means at all in the position. Despite his flaws, I appreciate Biden's efforts to take the high road and actually govern in some sort of progressive way over anything as incendiary, regressive and destructive as the Republicans seem to have become.
