I am surprised that no one seems to have studied the similarity of Putin's and Russian public opinion and French political and public opinion at the end of the Second World War, when France decided to recolonize Vietnam. The current Russian paranoia about the expansion of NATO is similar to the French paranoia at the time about the spread of communism, despite the fact that Ho Chi Minh had fought on our side during WWII. I think we could learn a lot about the Russian invasion of Ukraine from a historian with expertise in French history.
